Allyship
How To Be An Ally
Being an ally can be hard. You’re going to fumble, you’re going to mess up, but it’s important to keep coming back to the proverbial table, ready to listen and ready to learn, or potentially unlearn what you think you understand about groups and cultures that you are not a member of.
- Be aware of how much space you take up.
- Be willing to expand your personal views.
- Recognize the privilege you bring into a room.
- Don’t minimize another person’s queerness.
- You are not owed an education by marginalized folx! Google is your friend. Do your best to educate yourself when, and where you can.
- Recognize the intensified labour 2SBIPOC and Trans folks do to educate not only allies, but the 2SLGBTQ community as a whole.
- Remember not everyone identities under the same label, or in the same way.
